SPACE ANALYSIS OF STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS FOR THE MODERNIZATION OF PRODUCTION CAPACITIES OF «NAC «KAZATOMPROM»» JSC

Abstract

In the context of the global energy transition, the uranium industry is gaining increasing strategic importance, while Kazakhstan’s leading position in the global uranium market largely depends on the efficiency and technological modernization of the production capacities of NAC Kazatomprom JSC. The purpose of this article is to identify strategic directions for the modernization of the company’s production capacities based on SPACE analysis. The study examines production indicators, financial strength, competitive advantages, industry conditions, and the company’s market position. The research methodology consists of two stages. First, the production and operational performance of Kazatomprom for 2022-2024 is analyzed. Second, the SPACE analysis method is applied to determine the company’s strategic position. The results show that Kazatomprom’s strong financial position, low debt burden, advantages of ISR technology, substantial resource base, and significant role in the global uranium market place the company in the aggressive growth quadrant. However, this strategy should not be interpreted as unlimited production expansion. A more justified strategic direction is selective and risk-controlled growth, including modernization of production infrastructure, digitalization of monitoring systems, optimization of reagent use, export diversification, and stronger environmental sustainability. The scientific contribution of the article lies in integrating production-technological and strategic approaches to modernization analysis. The practical significance of the findings is that they can be used in forming long-term development priorities for Kazatomprom and improving the strategic management of production capacity modernization.
